About the Certification Program
Certification as a Registered Building Designer (RBD) or a Certified Residential Designer (CRD) is part of a Special Certification Program developed by ASTTBC in cooperation with industry organizations.
The practice of Building Design is the art and science of designing buildings in keeping with established codes, standards and current provincial statutes
Professional Titles
BDIBC members are usually recognized by the title Applied Science Technologist (AScT) or Certified Technician (CTech), and one of two designations :
RBD Registered Building Designer
CRD Certified Residential Designer
Certification Profiles
Registered Building Designer – An RBD has met the required standards for certification and offers building design service for all buildings as permitted under Part 9 of the Building Code and provincial legislation within accepted Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
Certified Residential Designer – A CRD has met the required standards for certification and offers residential building design service for one and two family dwellings within accepted Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
